Joanne Shields has been running for just over four years and really believes that running has changed her life. Prior to running, Joanne had a serious weight problem and had dieted her entire life. Joanne lost over 100lbs and that is just the beginning of her remarkable story. Her husband was diagnosed with terminal cancer at the age of forty, her father was dying with lung cancer, and her mother was killed by a drunk driver, all within her short running career and yet she continued to run - and with a huge smile and incredible attitude. Please join us at the Pasta Dinner, where Joanne will tell her incredibly inspiring story through her personal journals. Joanne will surely make you laugh, make you cry and above all, will motivate you to be ready for the start line!
The Running Room is an Alberta company which originated in 1984 out of founder John Stanton's wish to purchase quality running shoes from someone knowledgeable about the sport. John, who began running in 1981, decided to fill a niche in the running marketplace by opening a small one room store in the renovated living room of an old house in Edmonton, hence the name, "Running Room." The concept was highly successful and has since expanded to over 47 locations across Canada and the United States of America. In addition to shoes and apparel there is an incredible number of services that offer clinics such as Walking, Learn to Run, Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K Training, Personal Best, and For Women Only Running Clinics. The tremendous success of these clinics is evident from the over 200,000 clinic graduates to date.
